Dr. Kimberley Kelly, N.D., R.N., L.M.I practiced as a registered nurse for 10 years in critical care before starting my practice in 1990 as a Naturopath and a Midwife. In 1998, I stopped my midwifery practice with the birth of my third son, but have continued my family practice in Naturopathic Medicine. My Naturopathic practice provides the same medical care as a standard family practice physician, but the philosophy and often the treatment will differ. Naturopaths focus on treating the underlying cause and not just the symptoms. If a person comes in with complaints of headaches, I will not only give some treatments for pain, but also try and figure out if hormonal, digestive, muscular/skeletal or some other imbalance causes it. We believe that the body has the ability to heal itself if the obstacles to this process are eliminated. In order to do this, I spend a full one-hour on the first office call and take a detailed history. Return office calls are 30 minutes vs. the typical 15 minutes that only allow enough time to treat the symptoms. Many of the lab test performed are the same as in a medical doctor's office, including blood tests, paps, etc., but the treatments often involve nutrition, herbs, homeopathics and lifestyle changes. I might need to prescribe medications like antibiotics in some cases, but it is often not my first choice of therapy if possible Due to my Midwifery practice, approximately 50% of my patients are pediatric. Naturopathic medicine works very well in preventing and treating ear infections and maximizing their immune systems in addition to regular well child visits. I can also provide all immunizations after a discussion of their pros and cons. The remaining part of my practice involves all ages. I work together with patients in an equal relationship to improve their health, educate others and create goals that are individually achievable. I provide free 15-minute consultations to allow you to meet me and answer questions about my type of care.
